What We Do:

We works with Tribal, Dalit and other underprivilged communities and provides value-based education to their the children through formal schools, non-formal schools and scholarships to the poor but meritorious students. We also take up issues of disaster through advocacy, relief and rehabilitation.

1. Formal Education: We open formal primary, secondary schools for the underprivileged sections of society and impart value-based education to the children. We aim to develop not only their knowledge and skills but also human values like truthfulness, honesty, sincerity, dutifulness, tolerance and compassion to make them good human beings. We also give special emphasis on girls’ education for gender equality and women empowerment in the long run. See Sneha Schools for more details.

2. Scholarship: Many students in the villages are unable to purchase even basic needs like pen, pencil, books, uniforms, winter dress etc due to poverty resulting in high drop out rate and lack of motivation to study and work hard. We have undertaken a scholarship programme in 2007 to provide financial help to school kids from class VIII to XII which we hope will motivate them to work hard and excel.

SNEHA got 6 Chakma students admitted in DAV Public schools (boarding and day scholars) free of cost in Jharkhand and Delhi.

3. Disaster management: We take up issues of disaster, natural or man-made. During floods in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in July and August 2004, Sneha took up the matter and gave a Press Release about the plight of the Chakmas caused by the floods. It was reported by two leading News Dailies namely The Pioneer in Delhi and The Sentinel in Assam on 25th July and 3rd August 2004.
